In Altai Territory, pre-investigative check carried out into accident on Anuy river involving children

The Altai Territory Office of the Investigative Committee is carrying out a check into death of three children while swimming in a river.

According to preliminary data, in the afternoon of 18 June 2016, seven children unattended by adults went to swim in the Anuy river on an unequipped beach located about 3 km from the settlement of Anuyskoye. To get to the place the children decided to cross the river on shallow water by holding hands. At some point the first in the chain stepped into the deep spot of the river and fell dragging the rest of the children in water. The holidaymakers who were nearby saw the drowning and rushed to save them, however, they could not save three of them – two girls aged 13 and 14 and a boy 13 years of age.

Investigators have examined the scene, questioned the eye-witnesses, are questioning the parents of the dead children and looking into all the details of the incident. At the moment rescuers of the Emergency Ministry are conducting search operations to recover the dead bodies. A procedural decision will be made following the check.
