In Khakassia, probe launched into negligent killing of woman in labor

On 22 July 2016, a number of local media reported that a woman had died in the Abakan maternity hospital on 7 July 2016. The Khakassia Office of the Investigative Committee has opened a criminal investigation into a crime under Part 2 of Article 109 of the RF Penal Code (reckless homicide due to improper discharge of professional duties).

According to preliminary information, on 21 June 2016, a 38-week pregnant 39-year-old woman from the settlement of Tashtyp was accepted at the clinical maternity hospital for monitoring because of the large fetus. On 7 July 2016, the 41-week pregnant woman went into term labor. The woman died of massive amniotic fluid embolism and massive loss of blood. Investigators are going to assess the actions of doctors involved in delivery of the baby.

At the moment, investigative operations are underway to find out all the details of the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
