In Krasnodar Territory, probe finished against members of gang charged with series of major crimes

The Krasnodar Territory Office of the Investigative Committee has finished the investigation against four men aged between 45 and 55. Depending on the role of each one, they are charged with membership in an armed group (Part 2 of Article 209), extortion aggravated by inflicting grievous bodily harm (Part 3, items “a’, “b” and “c” of Article 163), murders of four people committed by an organized group and aggravated by extortion and banditry (Part 2, items “a”, “g”, “h” and “j” of Article 105) and illegal circulation of firearms (Part 3 of Article 222 of the RF Penal Code).

According to investigators, the accused were members of an organized group set up by a man, an underworld leader (charges were dropped owing to his death). The gang assailed citizens and extorted money from them, and if they did not agree they killed them.

Two of the accused involved in the group in 2006-2007, extorted money (some 30,000 US dollars) from the president of the cognac plant’s board of directors. In January 2007, when the man refused to give money to members of the gang, the accused killed him in a café in Krasnoarmeisky District by shooting him from a pistol and a submachine gun. In addition, they killed two of his acquaintances who were also present in the café.

The director of the café witnessed the crime, so in February 2007, in order to conceal the previous murder, one of the accused took the man to the village of Kanevskaya, where the rest of the gang made two shots to his head.

The two of the accused were detained in February 2015 and the rest in July the same year during systematic work done to solve crimes committed in previous years and thanks to well-planned operations carried out together with the regional office of the RF Ministry of the Interior.

The investigation was difficult because of a number of reasons, including a lot of investigative and search operations, interviews and expert examinations needed.

The investigator carried out more than 470 operations, including interviews, in-site checks of statements, crime scene investigations involving different specialists and forensic equipment, as well as some 40 forensic inquiries, including DNA, medical, ballistic, trace and portrait ID ones. There are 43 case files.

The investigators have enough evidence, so the criminal case with the signed indictment will soon be referred to court.
