Alexander Bastrykin orders Ivanovo gas explosion case be handed over to Investigative Committee’s Central office for further investigation

The Chairman of the Investigative Committee has ordered the Committee’s Central Office to take up the investigation into the death of people in a gas explosion in the town of Ivanovo for through, quick and impartial inquiry.

The Ivanovo Region Office of the Investigative Committee opened an investigation in a crime under Part 3 of Article 238 of the RF Penal Code.

A gas explosion happened in a flat of a house in Minskaya Street early in the morning of 6 November 2016. According to preliminary data, 6 people were killed. 4 more are in a hospital with injuries.

Documents related to commissioning and maintenance of the gas equipment, as well as reports on preparing the building for the heating season are being confiscated from Garant-Servis building management company, organizations maintaining the communal property of the building, a gas supply company and the Ivanovo town administration. The investigators keep on interviewing the tenants and workers of the said companies.

The investigators, criminalists and forensic experts go on examining the explosion scene. According to preliminary results of the examination the investigators believe that the epicenter of the explosion was a flat on the first floor where a damaged gas-fired boiler and burning traces on the floor were found.

Unfortunately this is not the first tragedy when people get killed in gas explosions in their flats when cold weather comes to regions. The investigators are going not only to figure out quickly and strictly the circumstances of such accidents, to identify the guilty ones and reveal the reasons and circumstances that made them possible to happen. Possibly this will help to avoid such tragedies in future.
