The Dagestan Office of the Investigative Committee has detained CEO of OAO Makhachkalabodokanal Magomed Murtazaliyev as a person of interest in the investigation opened on 28 October 2016in mass poisoning of people with water.

The investigation was launched in a crime under part 1 of Article 238 of the RF Penal Code (providing unsafe services).

As was preliminarily established, in late October, Makhachkalavodokanal supplied in Makhachkala drinking water which did not meet sanitary standards. This caused mass poisoning and residents of the city started going to hospitals with acute enteric infection.

As of 2 November, 657 people, including 497 children have applied to hospitals. 345 patients, including 246 children, remain in hospital.

Considering all the evidence collected, the investigators are going to request a court to place Murtazaliyev in custody pending trial.

At present, necessary investigative operations are underway to find out all the circumstances of the crime. The investigation is ongoing.
