Members of gang committing robberies and murders in Tyumen and Sverdlovsk Region for 7 years jailed

A court has recognized the evidence collected by the Tyumen Region Office of the Investigative Committee sufficient to convict 5 residents of the city of Tyumen: Viktor Savin, 53, his some Vyacheslav Savin, 28, Dmitry Maksimov, 33, Sergei Neshatayev, 29 and Anton Cheminava, 37, a resident of the settlement of Berdyuzhye.

Depending on the role of each one, they were found guilty of crimes under Article 209 (banditry), Part 4 of Article 162 (robbery), Part 2 of Article 105 (murder of two or more people), Part 3 of Article 222 (illegal circulation of firearms, ammunition or explosives), Part 3 of Article 223 (illegal manufacturing of firearms), Part 4 of Article 226 (stealing of firearms and ammunition), Part 3 of Article 126 (abduction), Part 4 of Article 158 (larceny), Part 5 of Article 33, Part 4 of Article 158 (accessory in larceny) and Part 2 of Article 228 of the RF Penal Code (illegal drug dealing).

In the autumn 2008, Viktor Savin set up a gang to rob people and involved in it his son Vyacheslav and two acquaintances of his Maksimov and Neshatayev, as well as Andrei Chernov who was later killed by other members of the gang.

The organizer supplied firearms and gas guns, as well as ammunition. The Gang had 5 guns (an AKS-74 submachine gun, 2 pistols and 2 carbines), 955 cartridges and 8 TNT sticks.

From 2008 to 2014, the accused committed a series of robberies and murders in Tyumen and Sverdlovsk Region. They committed a total of more than 20 crimes against life, health and property of citizens.

On 15 May 2010, they broke into the house of a married couple in the settlement of Turinskaya Sloboda, Sverdlovsk Region and robbed them. They beat the man and then killed him stealing 2.1 million rubles worth of cash and valuables.

In June 2010, the members of the gang shot a man on a country road in Yasen, a non-commercial gardening community in the settlement of Bereznyakovsky, Tyumen in order to conceal another crime they had committed before that. They then dismembered the body and buried it not far from the crime scene.

In April 2011, they robbed a woman in Tyumen. They had broken into her flat in Velizhanskaya Street, used violence against the woman and stole some 2 million rubles worth of valuables.

On 1 August 2013, they broke in a house in Iskatel, a gardening community, where they used guns and violence to get hold of at least 1 million rubles worth of valuables. They kidnapped the victims and killed them. During the investigation they showed the place they had buried the 39-year-old businessman and his 28-year-old 8-month-pregnant wife.

On 22 January 2014, the gangsters tortured and brutally killed a Tyumen businessman, CEO of ZAO Kamenskoye, a close corporation, stealing his money and valuables.

The investigators did a lot to expose the members of the Savin’s gang, questioned more than 100 witnesses, ran forensic inquiries, including ballistics, soil, trace and commodity ones.

The case was tried by a jury, who unanimously found the accused guilty.

The court has sentenced Viktor Savin and Dmitry Maksimov to life in prison to be served in a special-security correctional facility; Vyacheslav Savin to 23 years in a maximum-security correctional facility; Sergei Neshatayev to 3.5 years in a maximum-security correctional facility; Anton Cheminava to 5.5 years in a minimum-security correctional facility.
