In Belgorod Region, investigators take steps to help social adjustment of big family affected by fire

The Belgorod Region Office of the Investigative Committee continues a pre-investigating check into a fire in the house of a large family in Prokhorovka District.

A lot of operations have been conducted during the check. Investigators have confiscated documents from the district administration and the settlement, requested information from the authorities, local government, hospitals, law-enforcement and other authorities that have to do with the incident under the check and interrogated about 30 persons.

The investigative authority is going to see if the district and settlement administrations took timely steps to help the family out of a difficult situation and if respective authorities helped them gather necessary documents to confirm the family was a low-income one; if officials looked into the living conditions of the family, their house (the house had no gas supply since 2014 and was heated by wood for economy), as well as into possible living conditions in other offered housings.

After the fire, the family was offered to move into a social housing where a mother and children have to live separately and the mother rejected it, so the whole family are now living at her mother-in-law’s.

The wide public response, active position of and efforts taken by the investigative authority have helped to settle the problem of the family, who got a new house worth over 2.5 million rubles, equipped with everything needed for comfortable living, including 5,000 square meter land plot and some outhouses. The house was bought on the money from Pokoleniye (Generation), an international charity.

Officials of the investigative authority are now raising money to help the family. An initiative group has given the children some warm clothes and foodstuffs. It has been decided to buy necessary furniture for the family and a TV for the heroic little girl who saved her brothers and sisters. Papers are being made now to send 3 of the children to a sanatorium in the town of Shebekino. The administration of Prokhorovka District is now working to restore all family’s documents destroyed by the fire. Children’s birth certificates and mother’s passport have been restored.
