Following a wide public reaction, the Moscow Region Directorate of the Investigative Committee has taken over an investigation in violation of the road code which has entailed death of two or more people under Part 5 of Article 264 of the RF Penal Code after a traffic accident in Lukhovitsy District which killed three children.

Investigators have revealed that on the morning of 25 March 2017, a Renault Sandero travelling from the town of Ryazan to Voskresensk collided with a Gazel Next on kilometer mark 143 on M5 Ural motorway near the village of Vrachovo. Three children were killed on the scene, while the fourth one was taken to a hospital with multiple injuries.

The investigators have information that the victims were inmates of a Ryzan sports school and were headed to Voskresensk to take part in a boxing competition. The car was driven by their coach.

Both of the drivers have been detained and are now being interrogated. They are now expecting a restraint. The investigators are going to look into the conditions of children’s transportation, check if the trip was agreed upon by the sports school administration and organizers of the competition. The main version is a human error. The investigation is ongoing.
