Two arrested in Moscow on suspicion of killing Great Patriotic War veteran

The Moscow Directorate of the Investigative Committee is conducting an investigation against 27-year-old Maksim Sazonov and Aleksei Shala suspected of a murder committed by a group in collision and out of mercenary motives under Part 2, items “g” and “h” of Article 105 of the RF Penal Code.

According to investigators, in the autumn of 2014, Shala conspired with his friend to kill his 87-year-old grandfather to get hold of his property. To do that, they deceived the victim and took him to a village in Moscow Region. They then killed the old man and took off.

The two suspects were located in March 2017 following well-planned investigative and search operations conducted by investigators of the Moscow Directorate of the Investigative Committee and metropolitan police officers.

By now both of the men have been placed in custody and are expecting to be charged. Necessary investigative operations are ongoing to find out all the circumstances surrounding the crime, collect and document the evidence. The investigation is ongoing.
