Smolensk Region investigators look into death of girl

The Smolensk Region Office of the Investigative Committee is investigating suicide soliciting of a 15-year-old girl whose body was found on 27 April 2017 in the woods in the town of Yelnya.

Investigators have revealed that prior to her death the girl had had a conflict with four of her peers who had bullied her and even beaten. The investigators sent a request to vice-governor of Smolensk Region responsible for education that internal check should be run into failure to take steps to settle the conflict.

In addition, a check is underway at the moment into possible negligence under Part 2 of Article 293 of the RF Penal Code in the actions of officials of education and child neglect system. The investigators are going to give legal assessment to the actions of administrations of two schools, the one where the victim went and the other where the teenagers who bullied her went, police officers and administration of Yelnya District.

The investigators are looking into all the circumstances that may have stressed the girl and made her take her own life. They are going to look into every reason of the tragedy. By now they have already searched the teenagers’ flats, taken their computers, cell phones and tablet computers. All of those are going to be processed to get and analyze the girls’ chats in social networks and other information that can help the investigators to find the truth. A DNA, chemical and technical expert examinations have been ordered. Investigative operations are underway to find out all the circumstances and motives of the incident.
