Chairman of the Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin has ordered his subordinates at the Central Office to check media reports claiming that a lawyer is being illegally prosecuted in Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area-Yugra. The reports say that the lawyer represented a woman killed in a motor vehicle accident when she had been run over by an official of the regional investigative authority, and a few months later that office opened a criminal investigation against the lawyer charging him with attempted intermediacy in giving a bribe. The lawyer’s colleagues claim that the two probes are linked and the investigation is biased.

Investigators are going to check all the arguments in the media reports, as well as whether the decisions made were impartial and legal.
