Middleman in 3.4 billion ruble bribery of ex-governor of Chelyabinsk Region Yurevich held

The Investigative Committee’s Head Office has initiated criminal proceedings against former governor of Chelyabinsk Region Mikhail Yurevich suspected of taking a bribe under Part 6 of Article 290 of the RF Penal Code.

According to investigators, from January 2011 to January 2014 Mikhail Yurevich got a bribe on a very large scale of at least 3.4 billion rubles from businessmen of Chelyabinsk Region for the actions that were part of his job and for general patronage.

Andrei Churkin, CEO of Moscow office of OAO Makfa, a public corporation and assistant of a member of the Russian Duma, has been detained for mediation.

A court has ruled to take Churkin in custody pending trial. The investigation is ongoing. The investigators are working to find out all the circumstances surrounding the crime.
