St. Petersburg investigators looking into death of baby and hospitalization of elderly woman

The Saint Petersburg Office of the Investigative Committee has opened a murder investigation under Part 2, items “a” and “c” of Article 105 of the RF Criminal Code.

According to preliminary information, about 6:15 PM, on 15 June 2017, a local resident reported his 65-year-old relative missing. The woman had gone out about 1 PM that day with the man’s one-month-old daughter to Yuntolovsky Park in Primorsky District of Saint Petersburg and disappeared.

Investigators together with officials of the Saint Petersburg and Leningrad Region Directorates of the Interior Ministry and Emergency Ministry and volunteers mounted a massive search immediately.

The woman and the baby’s dead body were found in the park at about 4 AM on 16 June 2017. The woman was taken to a hospital.

The investigators are now working to find out all the circumstances of the incident. They have ordered a postmortem to find out the baby’s cause of death. The woman is going to be evaluated by psychologists. The investigation is ongoing.
