In Krasnodar Territory, boy gone missing in forest during orienteering competition found alive thanks to joint efforts of law-enforcers and volunteers

A report that a 12-year-old boy went missing was received by police of the town of Goryachy Klyuch on the evening of 22 October 2017. The Krasnodar Territory Office of the Investigative Committee launched a check immediately.

The boy was taking part in an orienteering competition held in the settlement of Saratovskaya, but he failed to show up at the finish line. A lot of people and necessary special equipment were used to find the boy. More than 470 people – employees of the Russian Ministry for Emergency Situations, military, police, Cossacks, representatives of municipal authorities and volunteers – went searching for the boy.

The boy has been found today 22-25 km away from the place he was seen last on 22 October. According to preliminary information, the boy got lost in the forest. Investigators are going to talk to him, after he has been examined by doctors and cleared for questioning.

The investigators thank all the citizens who took part in the search operation, thanks to which the boy was found safe and sound. To prevent such incidents, the investigators are going to look into the reasons and contributing factors. During the check they are also going to assess actions (omission) of officials responsible for the safety of participants during the competition.
