Investigative Committee Chairman sends employees of Central Office to Khanty-Mansiysk to look into death of children in December 2016 road accident

The Head Office of the Investigative Committee continues looking into all the circumstances surrounding the traffic accident that happened in Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area – Yugra in December 2016 and involved a bus with children aboard. 12 passengers, including 10 children, were killed in the accident. The investigation is being supervised by the Central Office of the Investigative Committee.

Director of the Sibiryak Sports School Irina Tarasova, the bus driver Marat Zainullin and representative of an entrepreneur, who provided transportation, Alexander Sidoruk, as well as Volvo truck driver Rail Saitkhanov have already stood trial.

The parents who lost their children and consider that the list of the prosecuted is not complete, asked the Chairman of the Investigative Committee to find all those guilty in the tragedy. During his working visit in Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area, Mr. Bastrykin met fathers of several girls killed in the accident and promised them that he would personally control the investigation commissioned to experienced investigators of the Investigative Committee’s Head Office.

Two employees of the Bashkiria’s traffic police – chief of department N.M. Dergunov and inspector N.A. Stepanova were charged with negligence. They had failed to enter into the federal traffic police database the data that Rail Saitkhano’s driving license had been taken away. By now, inspector Stepanova has been suspended from the office, while Dergunov has been dismissed.

Acting chairman of the physical education and sports committee of Nefteyugansk administration Alexander Komaritsky has been detained today in the city of Khanty-Mansiysk.

Considering that the injured parties keep asking for just trial, investigation and settling the number of their social problems, Mr. Bastrykin has sent to the region Head of the Investigative Committee’s procedural Control Directorate Grigory Zhtenev and first deputy head of the Investigative Committee’s Head Office Yuri Tyutyunnik. They were charged to control the progress of the investigation on site and if necessary to meet the injured parties. If need be, Mr. Bastrykin is also ready to go to the region at once to personally meet the parents of the killed children. As settling most of their problems is in competence of the local authorities, the Chairman has sent a letter to the governor of Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area – Yugra with an enclosed file of complaints from the parents.

The Investigative Committee is interested in the fullest and impartial investigation and the public will be informed on its results by all means.
