The Investigative Committee Continues Investigation of the Ongoing Shelling of the Territory of Donbass

The Main Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia has initiated two more criminal cases over the facts of shelling of settlements in the LPR and DPR killing and injuring people, and damaging infrastructure; the criminal cases have been initiated on the grounds of a crime under Part 1, Article 356 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (ill-treatment of the civilian population; the use in an armed conflict of means and methods prohibited by an international treaty of the Russian Federation).

According to the investigation, from April 6 to April 9, 2022, servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other Ukrainian military units carried out massive targeted artillery and mortar attacks from heavy types of weapons with high destructive properties against infrastructure facilities of the Donetsk People’s Republic in the cities of Donetsk, Yasinovataya and Mariupol, as well as the towns of Stepnoye, Maryinsky Raion, Yelenovka, Volnovakhsky Raion, and Velikonovoselkovsky Raion of the Donetsk People’s Republic. In the Lugansk People’s Republic, the city of Pervomaisk, as well as the towns of Kalinovo, Donetsky, Kalinovo-Borshchevatoye, were shelled.

The shelling killed 9 civilians not participating in the armed conflict and injured 38 people of varying severity, including two children. Also, 35 civilian infrastructure facilities – residential, administrative buildings and facilities – were damaged.

The Investigative Committee will continue recording all the crimes committed by representatives of the Ukrainian military units. All those involved in them will be identified and held accountable.
