New Criminal Cases Over Massive Shelling of Settlements in the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics Have Been Initiated

The Main Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia continues to record criminal actions committed by the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military units of Ukraine against the civilian population of Donbass. Two more criminal cases have been initiated over new facts of shelling of settlements in the LPR and DPR killing and injuring locals who are not participating in the armed conflict; the criminal cases have been initiated on the grounds of a crime under Part 1, Article 356 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (ill-treatment of the civilian population; the use in an armed conflict of means and methods prohibited by an international treaty of the Russian Federation).

According to the investigation, from April 7 to April 8, 2022, servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other Ukrainian military units carried out massive targeted artillery and mortar attacks from heavy types of weapons with high damaging properties, against infrastructure of the Donetsk People’s Republic in the cities of Donetsk, Gorlovka, Makeevka, Dokuchaevsk, Yasinovataya and Mariupol, as well as the town of Fedorovka, Amvrosievsky Raion. In the Lugansk People’s Republic, the cities of Stakhanov, Pervomaisk, as well as the towns of Kalinovo, Popasnyansky Raion, and Donetsky, Kirovsky Raion, were shelled.

The shelling killed 14 civilians and injured 38 people, including two minors; damaged 38 civilian infrastructure facilities, including a children’s educational institution in the city of Makeevka in the DPR, as well as a water intake station in the city of Stakhanov and a gas pipeline in the city of Pervomaisk in the LPR.

The Investigative Committee will continue recording all the crimes of the Kiev regime. The persons involved in their commission will be identified and held accountable.
