The Investigative Committee of Russia Has Initiated Criminal Cases Over the Use of Prohibited Means And Methods of Warfare

The IC of Russia has initiated two criminal cases on the grounds of a crime under Part 1, Article 356 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (ill-treatment of the civilian population, the use of prohibited means and methods of warfare in an armed conflict) in relation to the military personnel of the 24th separate mechanized brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Yevgen Kurash, Serhiy Postupalsky, Roman Mamavko; the 25th separate airborne brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Andriy Kachanov, Roman Zabrodsky, Andriy Tkachuk, Dmytro Chernichenko, Emil Ishkulov, Volodymyr Kapitula; the 30th separate mechanized brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksander Zinevich, Mykola Perestupnyak; the 56th separate motorized infantry brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine of Serhiy Sirchenko, Dmytro Gerasimenko, Vyacheslav Bugaychuk.

According to the investigators, in the period from June 17 to 18, 2022, during the day, these servicemen gave and executed criminal orders for targeted artillery shelling from heavy weapons, including the Tochka-U tactical missile system, of civilian infrastructure facilities in settlements of the Donetsk People’s Republic and the Lugansk People’s Republic.

The shelling of the cities of Donetsk, Gorlovka, Makeevka, Yasinovataya, Debaltsevo, Komsomolskoye in the DPR killed 11 civilians, injured 9 civilians, including five people injured as a result of the shelling by the Armed Forces of Ukraine with the Tochka-U tactical missile system. The shelling damaged 27 buildings and civil infrastructure facilities, including the building of a kindergarten.

The shelling  partially destroyed 9 residential buildings in the settlements of Krasny Luch, Kremennaya, Zolotoye-5 and Pervomaisk in the LPR.

The IC of Russia continues to identify units of Ukrainian armed formations and specific individuals of these units involved in the shelling of civilians.
