The course of the criminal investigation of the crash of Tu-154 of the President of Poland in Smolensk

Investigators of the General Investigative Office of the Investigation Committee of the Russian Federation started a thorough study of the Technical Commission final report on the investigation into the causes of the Tu-154 wreck near Smolensk, with the President of Poland on board, as well as of the comments submitted by the Polish side. The necessary investigative and other procedural actions will be undertaken. Also as part of a criminal investigation an integrated aircraft maintenance psychological forensic examination the results of which will also serve as a basis for decision-making process is planned to be appointed. In addition, the investigation expects to receive responses to requests for international legal assistance.

In February, the Investigative Committee is planning to receive Polish delegation and perform investigative activities to eliminate all the issues arising from the Polish side. During this period, in particular, the witnesses will be re-interrogated in the presence of representatives of the prosecutor of the Republic of Poland.

Only by comparing and analyzing all the available materials on the case, including the report of the Technical Commission, the results of aircraft maintenance, psychological and other forensic examinations, as well as after completion of the entire volume of the investigative and other procedural work, execution of orders for international legal assistance, investigation will be able to take a procedural decision, which will determine the causes and conditions that led to the catastrophe and the people responsible for this.
