The Chairman of the Investigative Committee holds a series of operational meetings in the North Caucasus

The Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia, Alexander Bastrykin has held operational meetings in cities Grozny and Nazran on the work results of the Investigative Offices of the Investigative Committee in the North Caucasus federal district for the I quarter of 2011.

Mr. Bastrykin has heard the reports on of the investigation into crimes of the terrorist character, committed on the territory of Chechnya, Kabardino-Balkaria, Karachay-Cherkessia, Dagestan, Ingushetia, and others. The work results of the interagency task force, created on behalf of the President of Russia in April 2010 to investigate crimes of a terrorist and extremist nature, committed on the territory of the North Caucasus federal district have also been reported to the Chairman. Thus, the task force has completed the investigation into 32 criminal cases of this category and people suspected of terrorist crimes and involved in 67 criminal cases, are wanted.

The results and progress of criminal investigations into very grave crimes that had drawn great public attention has been reported to the Chairman as well. In particular they reported: the November 2010 murder of 12 people in the village Kushchevskaya, the January 2011 murder of 8 people in Stavropol, the September 2010 terrorist attack in Vladikavkaz, the murder of human rights activist H. Estemirova, the July 2010 sabotage at Baksan hydropower station and other criminal cases controlled by the Investigative Committee leadership. In addition, A. Bastrykin was informed about the investigation into criminal cases involving disappearances of people. Relatives of the victims appealed to the European Court of Human Rights with regard of these cases.

As part of the working visit Alexander Bastrykin attended the opening ceremony in Nazran of the new building of the Investigative Office for the Republic of Ingushetia.
