Inquiry into a mass brawl at the rock music festival Tornado in Chelyabinsk Region resumed

Sergey Kurbatov – an active participant in the mass scuffle at the rock music festival Tornado in 2010 was detained on 11 October 2012 in the town of Kopeysk, Chelyabinsk Region. In this connection, the Urals Federal District Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee has resumed investigation of the criminal case.

Under the petition of the investigators, the court ruled to put Kurbatov into custody as a pre-trial restraining measure. He is charged with a crime under part 2 of article 212 of the RF Criminal Code (participation in mass riots).

According to investigators, on 29 August 2010, Kurbatov together with other participants arrived at the rock music festival Tornado held at a children’s health camp and took part in a mass riot accompanied by violence, pogroms, destruction of property, using firearms against visitors of the event. Investigators believe that it was Kurbatov, who shot at three victims from a traumatic gun wounding them. The main reason of the crime was disapproval by the attackers the liking for rock musing of the members of the festival.

13 participants of the mass scuffle were convicted earlier. At present 3 more participants remain wanted: Maksim Popov, Dmitry Pavlikov and Alexander Gir. Investigation is to be continued.
