Members of gangs charged with plotting a terrorist attack on Red Square in 2010 and other crimes to appear in court

The Central Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s investigative Committee has finished investigating a criminal case against Shamil baymambetov, Khayrulla, Nazir and Artur Magovedovs, Islam Babayev and Ravil Nasyrov. Depending on the role of each one they are charged with crimes under part 2 of article 209, article 205, article 222, and article 317, paragraphs “a”, “g” and “h” of part 2 of article 105 of the RF Criminal Code (banditry, terrorism, illegal handling of firearms, encroachment of the life of a law enforcement officer, murder).

According to investigators the five accused were members of so called gubdensky jamaat (gang) – one of the units of the criminal community acting in the Republic of Dagestan since 2003. Aims of this gang were forced change of constitutional status of the Russian Federation, encroachment on lives of representatives of state authority and control, law enforcement agents and military servants, destabilization of social and political situation in the Russian Federation. Nasyrov led a separate gang acting in the territories of republics in the North Caucasus.

Investigators believe that the three of the accused Artur and Khayrulla Magomedovs and Shamil Baymambetov were involved in plotting a terrorist attack on the Red Square on 31 December 2010. The most active part in recruiting the female suicide-bombers was played by Baymambetov. It was he who informed the women on their training to be suicide bombers.

Nazir Magomedov and Islam Babayev, according to investigators, were involved in murder of Head of Anti-Extremism Department based in Izberbesh, Anti-Extremism Center of the Dagestani Ministry of Internal Affairs, of his deputy and three civilians.

In addition the accused carried out a number of explosions of trains in the Republic of Dagestan and Stavropol Territory.

At present the three of the gang have already been convicted, several of the members of the criminal community were killed during counter-terrorism operations in the Republic of Dagestan and Stavropol Territory.

Investigators have collected enough evidence and the criminal case with the approved indictment has been forwarded to the court to be tried on the merits.
