In Yakutia forensic technical analysis assigned amid investigation in Polar Airlines Mi-8T crash killing 24

The investigating bodies of the East Siberian Transport Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have received the conclusion of the commission of the Interstate Aviation Committee as part of an investigation into the 2 July 2013 crash of a Mi-8T helicopter of Polar Airlines in Ust-Yansky district, Republic of Sakha (Yakutia).

According to the commission’s conclusion the most likely reason for the crash of Mi-8T was the fact that the pilot did not stick to rules of visual flights when he made an ill-timed decision to return to the airdrome of departure in worsening weather conditions during the flight and when the helicopter went down to the latitude lower than that safe in mountains.

Considering the conclusion the investigators have assigned a forensic technical analysis to determine if there was pilot’s guilt in the accident.

On 5 March 2014 the chairman of the Interstate Aviation Commission held a meeting attended by the representatives of Polar Airlines and an investigator of the Investigating Directorate in charge of finding the reasons of the air crash.

In addition the investigator familiarized the victims with the conclusion of the Interstate Aviation Committee.
