In Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area Yugra charges pressed amid inquiry in ATR-72 plane crash in Tyumen

The investigating bodies of the Ural Transport Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have ordered to prosecute Sergey Antsin as the accused of the crime under part 3 of article 263 of the RF Criminal Code (violation of safety and operation rules of air transport entailing by negligence death of two or more people). This was presented to the representative of the accused, that is his father and to the lawyer.

According to investigators, on 2 April 2012, an ATR-72 plane of OAO YUTair airlines travelling from Tyumen to Surgut took off from the Roshchino airport in the city of Tyumen and crashed within 1.5 km off the runway near the village of Gorkovka, Tyumen district, Tyumen Region. 33 people were killed in the crash and 10 more injured.

During the investigation under the current legislation investigators received from Antsin’s close relatives a declaration of will on non-agreement with the closure of the case due to the death of the suspect.

The investigators have gathered enough evidence proving the guilt of pilot Sergey Antsin in the crash of the plane. The cause of the crash was ice and snow on the surface of the plane caused by land icing during a stop; not full preparation of the aircraft to the flight and the pilot’s refusal to conduct anti-ice treatment of the plane.

Earlier the Urals Transport Investigations Directorate has pressed charges against a shiftman and a flight mechanic of OOO YUTair-Tekhnik. Investigation is ongoing.
