On 29 April 2014, at 11:00 PM, the Trans-Baikal Territory Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee got a report that ammunition exploded during a fire in military unit №74043. On 30 April 2014, the Trans-Baikal investigating bodies opened a criminal investigation into a crime under parts 2 and 3 of article 109 of the RF Penal Code (reckless homicide).

According to investigators a forest fire had spread to the ammunition depots in the village of Bolshaya Tura, Karymskoye District, Trans-Baikal Territory. Explosions killed soldiers who were putting out the fire. The number of the victims is being specified.

At present investigating and other procedural operations are underway to identify the victims and find out the circumstances of the incident. Investigation is ongoing.
