In Sverdlovsk Region check underway into death of six in fire

On 19 May 2014, at about 3:30 AM, law enforcement bodies of Kirov district in the city of Yekaterinburg got a report that there had been a fire in a single family house in Sakhalinskaya street, after which rescuers found on the fire site six dead bodies in addition to an injured man who was taken to hospital No 40 with burns. The Sverdlovsk Region investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have launched a pre-investigating check into the fact.

At present an investigating group of the Committee’s investigators, rescuers of the Russian Emergencies Ministry and police officers is working at the scene. They are examining the scene and questioning the witnesses (including visits to nearby buildings to find eye-witnesses).

The bodies have been sent for the forensic medical examination to establish the exact cause of death. The bodies are being identified. In addition, in the next few days a forensic medical examination is going to be set up to determine the degree of bodily harm sustained by the injured.

A report on the fire will be requested from the State Fire Control Service in the next few days to find out the source and reasons of the blaze. A procedural decision will be made following the check.
