Sverdlovsk Region Investigative agencies of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation charged two female employees of the Regional Children's Clinical Hospital № 1 with committing crimes under Part 2 of Article 109 of the RF Criminal Code (causing death by negligence due to improper performance of professional duties) and Part 2 of Article 293 of the RF Criminal Code (negligence, resulting in the death of a person) depending on the role of each.
According to the criminal case files, on the morning of February 28, 2014, a four-year boy died in the intensive care unit of the Regional Children's Clinical Hospital № 1 after medical manipulations. In addition, another two children (boys aged 6 and 7 years) suffered from this manipulation affected the other two young children (boys aged 6 and 7 years old); they were also taken to the intensive care unit of the hospital with signs that the sharp deterioration in health status.
Investigators believe that one of the defendants – a ward nurse of the above-mentioned hospital was involved in causing the death of a 4-year-old boy as she improperly conducted a medical manipulation. Also, another employee of the hospital, whose position is not disclosed in the interests of the investigation, who is responsible for the activities of middle and junior medical staff of the Regional Children's Clinical Hospital № 1 and the acquisition, storage and use of drugs in the hospital, failed to provide the proper organization and control of subordinate medical staff, and that led to such tragic consequences. According to a forensic medical examination, the boy died as a result of incorrect use of a medicine, which caused poisoning of the body of the child and the subsequent death of the minor patient.
Currently, employees of the Investigative Committee continue to conduct a complex of all possible measures aimed at the most thorough and objective investigation of the criminal case within the shortest possible time.
