In Kirov Region criminal investigation opened in L-42 crash killing four

The Volga Transport Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee has launched a criminal case over a crime under part 3 of article 263 of the RF Penal Code (violation of safety standards for traffic and operation of air transport involving by negligence death of two or more people) after an Amphibian L-43 plane crashed in Podosinovets District, Kirov Region.

According to investigators, on 8 August 2014, the unregistered L-42 with 4 people aboard crashed in the Kirov Region. All those aboard were killed in the crash. The plane was traveling Samara – Kazan – Arkhangelsk.

At present a number of investigative operations are underway to find out all the circumstances of the crash. Forensic medical analyses are ongoing, the fragments of the plane, victims’ belongings and documents seized from the crash scene have been examined, the victims have been identified. A number of investigative operations have been ordered to be carried out in the Samara Region. Technical documents have been confiscated from Samara Aerial Sports Technical Club.

Among the main versions of the accident the investigators are looking at technical failure, pilot’s error and that the pilot might felt bad during the flight.

Only after all investigative and procedural operations have been complete it will be possible to make conclusions about the causes of the crash and who was guilty of it.
