In Tver Region local residents found guilty of killing Great Patriotic War veteran

A court has recognized the evidence gathered by the Tver Region investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee sufficient to convict Dmitry Kapkov and Roman Plaksin. Depending on the role of each one they were found guilty of crimes under part 3 of article 162 of the RF Penal Code, paragraphs “g” and “j” of part 2 of article 105, part 2 of article 167, part 1 of article 158 (burglary committed using violence, dangerous for life and health and threats of using such violence committed by a group of people in a previous concert for the purpose of concealing another crime; deliberate destruction of another’s property which entailed considerable damage, committed by arson).

The court and investigators have found that on 1 July 2012, Kapkov and Plaksin were drunk and conspired to commit a crime. They put on masks and gloves and broke into a house in the village of 1 May in Konakovo District, Tver Region owned by an 89-year-old retired man – a veteran of the Great Patriotic War. Once in the house they forced the old man, who had come out to the noise, inside the house and threatening his life demanded to give them all the money he had. The old man took the threat seriously, took out a wallet and gave to the burglars. They took it and hit the old man at least two times on his head and demanded more money. Then the old man gave Kapkov and Plaksin at least 88 thousand rubles. To hide the crime Kapkov and Plaksin according to their roles and the agreement they had reached before, stabbed the man at least three times in the chest. After that that used a lighter to set the house on fire and fled the crime scene. The man died at the scene.

The court has sentenced Kapkov to 21 years to be served in a maximum-security penal colony. Plaksin got 17 years in a maximum-security penal colony. They are to pay 1 million rubles of damages each.
