Sentence passed on defendants in last December terrorist attacks in Volgograd

A court has recognized the evidence gathered by the Volgograd Region investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee sufficient to convict 4 defendants in the case over terrorist attacks in the city of Volgograd in December 2013. Alautdin Dadayev and Ibragim Magomedov were found guilty of crimes under part 2 of article 208 of the RF Penal Code (membership in an illegal armed group) and part 3 of article 205.1 (assisting a terrorist attack). Magomednabi and Tagir Batirov – of assisting to members of the illegal armed group (part 5 of article 33, part 2 of article 208).

As a result of close cooperation between the Investigative Committee and the Federal Security Service the circumstances of the terrorist attacks committed in Volgograd in late 2013 were revealed and all the persons involved were identified.

The court and investigators have found that in late 2013, Dzhamaltin Mirzayev, the leader of Kadarskaya terrorist group set up in Dagestan and its active members Yusup Yakhyayev, Nasrulla Temirkhanov and Arsen Dadayev planned a terrorist attack in the city of Volgograd. For that purpose they prepared suicide bombers Asker Samedov and Suleyman Magomedov. They gave them improvised explosive objects made of fragmentation shells. Residents of Dagestan Alautdin Dadayev and Ibragim Magomedov assisted the terrorists by letting them live in their residences and make explosives there.

To transport the bombers to Volgograd they involved brothers Magomed and Tagir Batirov, followers radical Islam and engaged in freight services. To do that they bought 188 bundles of hay and put them in a Kamaz truck, where the suicide bombers Samedov and Magomedov were hiding. The brothers knew that they were assisting activity of the illegal armed group, but were not aware about the true aim of Samedov and Magomedov’s journey. The truck went to Volgograd Region via Kalmykia. They spend a night in one of the villages not far from the city, next morning they split up and set off to the center of the city where Samedov almost at once blew himself up at the railway station. Magomedov spent the night in a hotel and next morning set off the bomb in an overcrowded trolleybus 15A.

On 5 February 2014, during a special operation Mirzayev, Temirkhanov, Yakhyayev and Arsen Dadayev were blocked in Ibragim Magomedov’s house in the town of Izberbash, Dagestan. When demanded to drop the weapons and surrender, they fought back and were killed by police officers. Ibragim Magomedov was detained. He confessed to the crime and turned in Alautdin Dadayev, who was also actively helping the group and assisted their terrorist activity.

Alautdin Dadayev was apprehended on 20 February 2014 in Dagestan. During the search in his residence the investigators found a cache with a lot of arms, ammunition and ready improvised explosive devices and schemes how to make them. Part of the cache was confiscated, but the rest were blown up on the spot in consideration of safety.

It is obvious that the arms were waiting to be used so it can be definitely said that by killing and detaining members of the group the investigators of the Russia’s Investigative Committee and operative officers of the Federal Security Service prevented other possible terrorist attacks in Russia. During the probe the investigators also revealed the motive of the terrorists, which as a rule is the same in all cases – an attempt to destabilize the situation in our country. But they probably can’t understand that such incidents not only not scale our people, but on the contrary unit them. Not one of terrorists who tried to kill our citizens has managed to get away with it. Al of them are either being prosecuted, or were killed during special operations. They stand no chance to reach their aim – to destabilize the situation and spread havoc. The guarantee of that is highly professional work of special services and other law enforcement agencies of Russia based on unconditional support of the people.

The court has sentenced Dadayev and Magomedov to 19 years each to be served in a maximum-security penal colony, brothers Batirov – 3 years and 10 months to be served in a minimum-security colony and all of them further restraint of livery for 2 years. The actions filed by the victims have been satisfied.
