In St. Petersburg sentence passed in 2013 murder of money collectors case

A court has recognized the evidence gathered by Saint-Petersburg investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee sufficient to convict Alexey Palenov convicted previously for illegal drug dealing. He was found guilty of a crime under part 3 of article 30, paragraph “b” of part 3 of article 161 of the RF Penal Code (attempted robbery).

The investigators revealed that a driver and money collector of Saint-Petersburg regional office of Rosinkas Roman Chetverik and Palenov devised a plan of how to steal over 200 million rubles transported by Chetverik. Palenov rented a Citroen Jumper and a flat in Pribrezhnaya street to transport and keep the money. In that flat he was waited for a signal from his accomplice, while Chetverik got psychotropic substance dangerous for life and health.

At night of 16 December 2013, Chetverik bought 4 coffees at a gas station in Knipovich street. He put the drug in three of them and gave them to his colleagues who were waiting in the car. When the drug worked and the men were unconscious, about 2:30 AM, Chetverik stopped the car near the house in Dvortsovaya embankment and used his PM pistol to attack the senior money collector who tried to stop the robbery. As a result of the shooting in the car the senior money collector was killed as well as Chetverik, who failed to give the signal to the accomplice.

The court sentenced Palenov to 5.5 years to be served in a maximum-security penal colony.
