Driver who provoked traffic accident killing three police officers in Stavropol Territory detained

The Stavropol Territory investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee continue investigation in a crime under part 5 of article 264 of the RF Penal Code (violation of rules of the road entailing death of two or more people).

According to investigators, 11 June, at about 7 PM, on a highway near the village of Temnolesskaya, Shpak District, a Skoda car collided with a truck. From the records of a dashboard camera it is clear that the accident happened because a Toyota drove out on the wrong side of the road and took off after the accident. Five police officers of Kirov District Department of the Ministry of the Interior in Skoda got hurt, three of them (the head of investigations office, head of inquiry office and an operative) died on the scene, two more (an investigator and an operative) were taken to hospital.

It was possible to quickly locate the driver of the Toyota in Kalmykia thanks to well-organized cooperation between investigators and operative officers. It is a 64-year-old resident of the town of Kislovodsk. At the moment the man is detained and is being transported to the site of preliminary investigation. In addition, investigators have examined and confiscated the Toyota the man drove at the moment of the accident. A number of other investigating and procedural operations are under way to gather necessary evidence. The investigation is ongoing.
