In Novosibirsk Region former law enforcement officials to stand trial for drug dealing and other crimes

Novosibirsk-based 5th investigative department of the Main Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee has finished investigation against former officials of the Novosibirks Region Office of the Federal Drug Conrol Service Alexander Yakushev, Timofey Sokolov, Alexander Vasilyev, Vasily Markin, Mikhail Kushnir, former official of the Siberian Federal District Main office of the Russian Ministry of the Interior Alexey Bornikov and residents of Novosibirsk Ilkhomzhon Shomirsaidov, Dmitry Kornev. Depending on the role of each one they are charged with crimes under part 1 of article 30, part 5 of article 228.1 of the RF Penal code (plotting illegal drug dealing by a group of people on a very large scale), part 1 of article 222 (illegal storage of ammunition), part 5 of article 33, part 3 of article 228 (complicity in illegal purchasing of drugs without intention of selling on a very large scale), part 1 of article 286 (misuse of power), part 3 of article 285 (abuse of power), part 2 of article 292 (forgery) and others.

According to investigators, in October 2013, operatives Yakushev, Sokolov, Vasilyev, Markin, Kushnir and police officer Bornikov joined in a criminal group with Shomirsaidov and Kornev and illegally organized delivery of 20 kg of heroin in bags for vegetables from Tajikistan to the Russian Federation. Besides, in order to send in jail an innocent man, Kushnir, Markin, Vasilyev with assistance of Sokolov made false documents saying that during a search in the man’s car they had found packs of the drug.

The investigators have enough evidence so the criminal case with the approved indictment has been sent to court to be tried on the merits.
