Probe launched in killing of officer and his wife in Chechnya

The 505th military investigations department of the Russia’s Investigative Committee based in the village of Khankala, Chechen Republic, has opened a criminal investigation against Sergeant Idris Ayubov, who served in a battalion of unit 4156. He is suspected of crimes under paragraph “a” of part 2 of article 105 of the RF Penal Code (murder of two people) and part 1 of article 226 (stealing of firearms and ammunition).

On 27 August 2015, dead bodies of the second in command of the battalion, Major Musa Ayubov and his wife were found in their flat with gunshot wounds. During the examination the investigators seized a non-lethal gun remade to fire lethal bullets, eight 9 millimeter cartridge cases and found that the Major didn’t have his government-issues gun (a Stechkin pistol) and a magazine to it (9 millimeter).

Idris Ayubov was held on suspicions of the crimes during the investigation. During the search carried out in his flat, the investigators found and seized the stolen officer’s government-issue gun with 13 cartridges in the magazine and 1 more in the chamber.

Considering the evidence the investigators are planning to press charges against Ayubov and request with Grozny Tribunal to place the officer in custody pending trial. The investigative and search operations are underway to find out all the circumstances of the crime. The Investigation is ongoing.
