Probe launched in Omsk in death of 1-year-old boy due to maltreatment

The Omsk Region investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have opened a criminal investigation in a crime under part 2 of article 109 of the RF Penal Code (reckless homicide due to improper implementation of professional duties) following the death of a 1-year-old boy in children’s city hospital No 3 in the city of Omsk.

According to investigators the boy was delivered into children’s city hospital No 2 on 29 October with an acute repertory viral disease and then transferred to hospital No 3, where he was operated on 3 November, however, after that he got worse and died on 14 November. The presumable cause of death was sepsis.

Investigators believe that that the doctors had had the wrong diagnosis and so the treatment was also wrong. They have failed to find the reason of the child’s grave condition and that caused his death.

At present, the investigators have confiscated medical documents. A commission forensic medical examination is underway to find out the cause of death and if the boy had received will-timed and thorough medical aid. The parents, hospital staff, witnesses are being questioned and other investigative operations are underway to find out all the details of the crime and identify the guilty ones. The investigation is ongoing.
