Initial check launched in death of five teenagers in fire in Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area-Yugra

On 5 December 2015, about 11 PM, there was a report about a fire in a single-family house in the village of Feniks of the town of Lyantor, Surgut District. The fire almost completely destroyed the house. After the fire was put out, dead bodies of 5 teenagers aged between 14 and 16 years were found. The Surgut Inter-District Investigations Office of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area-Yugra Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee is carrying out a pre-investigating check into the fact.

Senior officials of the investigations office and an investigative team consisting of investigators, criminalists of the Investigative Committee took off for the scene immediately.

According to investigators, a company of teenagers had a birthday party in the house. At present, a set of operations are underway to find out all the details of the incident. The fire scene is being investigated to see the cause of the fire. Witnesses, relatives of the killed are being interviewed and investigators are looking for the owner of the house. The bodies have been sent for a forensic medical investigation to find the cause of death.

A procedural decision will be made following the check.
