Probe launched in fire killing two children in Omsk Region

On 13 January 2016, about 8:30 PM, a fire started in a holiday cottage in the Avtodorozhnik gardening society in Leninsky District of Omsk. Two brothers aged 5 and 7 years were killed in the fire. The Omsk Region investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee opened a criminal investigation in a crime under part 3 of article 109 of the RF Penal Code (reckless homicide of two people).

According to the information investigators got during the examination of the fire scene and preliminary investigation, the source of the fire was on the floor of the room, which may suggest that the cause of the fire was open flame. When the fire started, the boys were at home with their 64-year-old grandmother, who was drunk. The children died of carbon monoxide inhalation. Rescuers managed to take the woman from the fire and she was taken to hospital. According to the available information, the family was a problem one.

At present, investigative operations are underway to find out all the details of the incident. Fire test has been assigned to figure out exact reasons for the fire. The investigation is ongoing.
