Employee of service company in charge of maintenance of elevator in northwestern Moscow where woman died detained

The Moscow Main Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee has opened a criminal investigation in a crime under part 2 of article 238 of the RF Penal Code (production, storage, transfer or sale of unsafe goods of products, carrying out unsafe works or providing unsafe services).

According to investigators, on 14 January 2016, a 36-year-old woman died due to a technical failure and crack of an elevator in an apartment building in Aviatsionnaya street in Moscow. Searches have been carried out in the building managing and service companies.

Electrician Alexey Belousov has been detained on suspicion of the crime. He works with Lift Garant company and had maintained the elevator and its equipment not long before the tragedy. In addition, the investigators are studying technical documents and regulations to check if the contractor company was involved in the crime. The investigation is ongoing.
