In Perm, man detained on suspicion of killing 10-year-old missing girl

The Perm Territory Office of the Investigative Committee has detained a suspect in a case over a 10-year-old missing girl under Part 2, item “c” of Article 105 of the RF Penal Code (murder of a minor).

The crime was solved within 24 hours thanks to well-planned and professional operations led by deputy head of the regional investigative authority Sergei Sarapultsev, an operative team of investigators of the Motovilikhinsky District Investigative Office and criminalists of the Investigative Committee’s Forensic Office, as well as agents of the police and crime detection office of the Interior Ministry’s Perm Territory Directorate. Volunteers, citizens and journalists took active part in the search for the missing girl.

The perpetrator was found thanks to evidence found. The investigators had pulled footage from a surveillance camera which showed that the girl on her way home was taken in a car in an unknown direction. The driver, an ex-con from Perm, was identified and detained in the shortest possible time. His residence and car were examined and searched immediately using latest forensic equipment. The search and examination gave physical evidence exposing the man. Under the weight of evidence the suspect told the investigators about the circumstances surrounding the crime and showed the place where he had hidden the body - near the bridge over the Garevaya River, where the investigators then found the body.

The investigators have established that the man attacked the 10-year-old girl, he had not known earlier, on the afternoon of 2 March 2017, forced her into his car, took her outside the town and killed her.

The investigators are going to ask courts to put the man in custody pending trial. He is going to be charged soon.

Investigative and search operations are ongoing to find out all the circumstances surrounding the crime and to collect and document the evidence. A number of forensic examinations are underway. The suspect is going to be checked on having been involved in other similar crimes against children. The investigation is ongoing.
