In Sakha (Yakutia) Republic, local woman found guilty of torturing and killing her son

A court has recognized the evidence collected by the Sakha (Yakutia)Republic Office of the Investigative Committee as sufficient to convict a 43-year-old resident of the city of Yakutsk. She was found guilty of torturing a helpless person under Part 2, item “d” of Article 117 and murder of a child under Part 2, item “c” if Article 105 of the RF Penal Code.

According to investigators, from September 2013 to December 2014, the woman regularly beat her son because he reminded her of her ex-husband who had left her. On 12 December 2014, the mother was helping her son to learn a poem by heart, but he got distracted and did not want to listen to her. The woman then grabbed a wooden bar and started beating her son with it. The boy died at the scene. When the woman saw that her son was showing no signs of life, she called an ambulance, but the crew had to certify his death. Later doctors established that the boy received 68 blows to the head, arms, legs and stomach. The woman was detained the same day.

She flatly declined any tortures, however the investigators conducted operations that confirmed her guilt. Namely, they found the woman’s previous address and questioned the neighbors, who confirmed that the woman had regularly beaten and tortured her son. Under the weight of the evidence the accused admitted the guilt and repented.

The court has sentenced the woman to 15 years in a minimum-security correctional facility.
