In Sverdlovsk Region, probe launched in violence used by unidentified persons against 11-year-old disabled boy

Following a report that several persons have used violence against an 11-year-old boy with disabilities the Sverdlovsk Region Office of the Investigative Committee has opened an investigation in extortion using violence committed by a group of people in collusion and on a large scale under Part 2 of Article 163 of the RF Penal Code. Those who commit such a crime are facing up to 7 years in prison and a large fine.

According to investigators, at about 6 PM on 5 April 2017, three unidentified men beat a boy from a school for disabled in the city of Yekaterinburg. They beat the boy in an elevator of the house where the child lives with his mother. According to the child, the men were demanding that his mother paid a debt of 300 thousand rubles, though the woman says that she has no such debt on her.

The investigators are taking necessary steps to find out all the circumstances surrounding the crime and to identify and detain the men who beat a helpless child in such a cynical manner. They are questioning the boy, his parents and some other individuals. The child will have to undergo a forensic medical examination which will determine the physical harm done to him. Following the results of necessary urgent investigative operations, the Investigative Committee will give a toughest legal assessment to the actions of the guilty ones. The investigation is being supervised by senior officials of the regional investigative authority.

The investigators are also going to find out reasons and contributing factors of the said outrageous crime. A request to eliminate such factors will be filed with social services.
