Probe launched in large fire in Strelka settlement, Krasnoyarsk Territory

The Krasnoyarsk Territory Office of the Investigative Committee has opened an investigation in negligence entailing violation of rights and legal interests of citizens under Part 1 of Article 293 of the RF Penal Code.

According to a preliminary version, a forest fire started near Lake Lebyazhskoye outside the town of Lesosibirsk on 24 May 2017. The fire spread to detached houses in Tayozhnaya, Gulika, Protochnaya Streets and Tayozhny Alley in the settlement of Strelka of Lesosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk Territory. The fire burned down 34 houses occupied by 199 people. The residents were evacuated, nobody was hurt, but people sustained large damage. Several manufacturing enterprises also got damaged.

By now investigators have examined the fire scenes, houses destroyed and damaged by the fire and pulled footage from CCTV cameras. To determine the area of the fire the investigators examined the territory using a GPS navigator and made some aerial pictures. They are questioning witnesses, have requested documents regarding preparing the settlement to the wildfire season, instructions of Lesosibirsk administration’s officials and firefighters.

The investigators will study in detail every reason and contribution factor of the fire that left people of Strelka homeless. The investigation is ongoing.
