Terrorist attack plot case referred to court

The seventh department (based in the city of Rostov-on-Don) of the Investigative Committee’s Head Office has finished criminal proceedings against tatyana Karpenko and Natalya Grishina charged with plotting a terrorist attack under Part 1 of Article 30, Part 2, item “a” of Article 205, assistance to terrorism under Part 1 of Article 205.1 and illegal circulation of explosives and explosive devices under Part 2 of Article 222.1 of the RF Criminal Code.

Karpenko and Grishina are Islamists and share the views of international terrorist organizations, including Imarat Kavkaz and IS prohibited in Russia. Investigators believe that from October 2015 to January 2016 the accused intended to commit a suicide terrorist attack in a shopping mall in the city of Rostov-on-Don. They got the means to do that: explosives and explosive devices, a button of an electric doorbell to close the circuit, self-tapping screws to be used as shrapnel and put it all in a vest.

The crime was stopped by the police. The accused are kept in custody.

The operative support was provided by officers of the extremism center of the Interior Ministry’s Rostov Region Directorate.

The investigators have enough evidence, so the criminal case with the signed indictment has been referred to the Ciscaucasia Area Military Court.
