Check into missing An-2 plane with passengers aboard in Sverdlovsk region

On 11 June 2012, at about 11 p.m. from the Serov airfield unauthorized take off was performed by An-2 plane with passengers aboard, the location of the plane is still unknown. The Urals Transport Investigating Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee is taking a pre-investigative check into the fact.

According to preliminary data, the plane has been rented to monitor forest fires in the region. It is established that the air traffic department was not notified about the take-off. The absence of the plane was discovered by the second pilot and a flight mechanic after they had returned from a short trip to Serov. At the moment of take-off there were the captain and an airfield watchman on the board. 3 cars have been discovered by crew members on the airfield.

At present, investigators of the Urals Transport Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have set off to the scene to examine it and to establish all the circumstances of the incident. Operations are under way to establish and check the drivers’ and passengers’ of the vehicles found at the scene involvement in the incident. A procedural decision will be taken following the results of the check.
