In Saratov Region 14 people suspected of organizing criminal community and membership in it

The Saratov Region investigating bodies of the Russian Investigative Committee opened a criminal case against 14 people suspected depending on the role of each one in a crime under parts 1 and 2 of article 201 of the RF Criminal Code (organization, leadership and participation in a criminal community). In August 2012, against the same persons there were initiated 2 criminal cases over signs of crimes under paragraph “b” of part 2 of article 171.2 (illegal gambling) and paragraph “b” of part 3 of article 146 (infringement of copyright) which were combined in one lawsuit.

According to investigators, in August 2011, 4 residents of Saratov created and headed a criminal community making its main activity organization of gambling using gambling equipment outside gambling zones, communication means, information and telecommunication networks, including the Internet, with illegal use of objects protected by copyright. After its creation the community incorporated at least 10 residents of Saratov and Engels, one of which managed the community’s subdivisions. On 7 August 2012, law enforcement bodies stopped activity of the criminal community.

At present investigating operations are underway to establish all circumstances of the crimes. Investigation is to be continued.
