In Sverdlovsk Region criminal proceedings launched in collision of trains at Kamensk-Uralsky station

Investigating bodies of the Urals Transport Investigating Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have launched a criminal case over collision of passenger trains at Kamensk-Uralsky station over signs of a crime under part 1 of article 263 of the RF Criminal Code (violation of rules for traffic and operation of railway transport entailing by negligence major damage).

According to investigators, at 7:34 a.m. on 13 October 2012, passenger train No. 346 Adler-Nizhny Tagil collided with the side of a shunting train travelling with a track measuring carriage. As a result of the collision both the trains suffered damage. The amount of property damage constitutes over 2.5 million rubles. According to preliminary information, 7 people suffered injuries of different gravity – 6 passengers and 1 conductor. The nature of injuries is being verified at the moment.

The investigators consider the following as the main versions of the incident: violation by shunting engine driver safety requirements while moving at an inhibiting signal of the traffic lights, violation of safety and operation rules for the railway transport by engine crew of the passenger train and failure of equipment at the railway station.

There are investigating operations underway to establish all circumstances of the accident, the accident scene has been examined, a number of expert examinations were assigned and interrogations are underway.
