Criminal proceedings launched in Chelyabinsk Region over Su-24 plane crash

Military Investigations Department of the Russian Investigative Committee has launched criminal proceedings into crash of Su-24 plane in Chelyabinsk Region over signs of a crime under article 351 of the RF Criminal Code (violation of the rules for flights and training for them).

It was established, that today at 12:54 p.m. Moscow time during a training flight the Su-24 plane of military unit 69806 crashed. The crew of two pilots managed to bale out and report on the incident.

The bomber dropped around 70 kilometers off the city of Chelyabinsk. There are no victims or destructions. According to preliminary information the plane cannot be repaired. At present military investigators with specialists are examining the scene. Samples of fuel were seized from a military airfield and the crash scene, and service documentation – from the military unit, the officers coordinating the flight from land are being interrogated. Investigative operation on the pilots will be conducted as soon as they get necessary medical examination.
