Criminal proceedings started into mass disorders causing disorganization in the correctional facility No 6 in Chelyabinsk Region

Based on the operative materials of the regional Directorate of the Federal Security Service the Urals Federal District investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have launched criminal proceedings into mass disorders entailing disorganization of activity of federal state-funded correctional institution No 6 and violation of public order on the adjacent territory containing signs of a crime under part 1 and part 2 of article 212 of the RF Criminal Code (organization and participation in mass riots).

According to investigators, at night of 25 November 2012, unknown persons, including those who had organized mass disorders, having got armed in advance with metallic tubes, sticks, stones and other objects at hand, acting deliberately and coherently, organized mass riots in the territory adjacent to the correctional institution No 6. During the disorders they offered armed resistance to officers of riot police and wounded them.

Earlier the Urals Federal District Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee had launched a criminal case over use of violence against an officer of a mobile special purpose team of the Chelyabinsk Region Main Directorate of the Interior Ministry while he was performing his duty on 24 November 2012 by protecting the public order and preventing civilians from entering the territory of the correctional institution No 6 containing signs of a crime under part 1 of article 318 of the RF Criminal Code (use of violence not dangerous for life or health, against a representative of the authority or their relatives in connection with their discharge of their official duties).

At present investigating and other operation are underway jointly with the Chelyabinsk Region Directorate of the Federal Security Service to ascertain all the circumstances of the crimes. In the near future the two cases will be combined into a single lawsuit. Investigation is to be continued.
