Anatoly Serdyukov and Yevgenia Vasilyeva refuse to help investigators

The Main Military Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee has summoned former Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov and Head of Property Relationships Department of the Defense Ministry Yevgenia Vasilyeva.

As part of already initiated criminal case investigators were going to question them on activity of federal state unitary enterprise Saint-Petersburg Engineering and Technical Center of the Russian Ministry of Defense providing under the state contracts transport services to bodies of military directorate of the Defense Ministry in different cities of the country. In addition, investigators were going to question Serdyukov and Vasiliyeva within the pre-investigating check over illegal alienation of more than 9 thousand square meters of land in the village of Bolshoy Utrish of Supsekhsky rural area of municipality of Anapa resort-city and buildings on this land. At present under the order of the Serdyukov’s son-in-law Valery Puzikov alite houses are being built there.

However, Serdyukov and Vasilyeva refused to answer any questions referring to article 51 of the RF Constitution allowing a citizen not to testify against themselves or close relatives.

In this connection the Main Military Investigations Directorate thinks that the position of Serdyukov and Vasilyeva does not in any way help to find the truth. But this position will not be an obstacle to impartial and all-round investigation. But investigators even without testimonies of these persons have a load of legal ways to collect and procedurally consolidate evidence. Investigating operations aimed at ascertaining all the circumstances of the crimes will be continued.
