In Irkutsk Region investigators have proofs that the suspect is involved in murder of Ulyana Alekseyeva

The Irkutsk Region investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee continued investigating a criminal case over the murder of 11-year-old Ulyana Alekseyeva in the town of Shelekhov on 7 February 2013.

A man suspected of the murder was held in the town of Angarsk during investigating and search operations. It is a man living in this town and born in 1965. It is known that he has been earlier convicted of thefts and robberies. He served his time in a jail in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, but was granted parole. On the day he was detained he had come to the police for monthly registration as a parolee. He was recognized as the wanted man. He was wearing the same clothes, in which he had committed the crime. The man is married, has an adult daughter. He has never worked anywhere.

As part of investigation investigators are going to check whether there were violations in activity of officials in organizing the registration of and control over convicts on parole.

Earlier a specialist in activating memories worked on people who have any vital invormation using psychological methods. Based on the information he had managed to get and the data investigators had already got a portrait-painter made a composition portrait of the criminal.

Investigators have go irrefutable proof that the detainee is involved in the murder – the positive result of a DNA test.

Now investigators of the Irkutsk Region Investigations Directorate and criminologists of the Central Office of the Russia’s Investigative Committee are working on the man. The identification procedure has been started. The first witness recognized the man as a presumed perpetrator. On 19 February the second witness recognized him as the man he had seen with the victim on the day she was murdered. In all there are about 10 witnesses who have relevant for the investigators information and proofs. Investigators of the Regional Investigations Directorate are working on them.

On 19 February 2013, during primary investigation the suspect partly confessed to the crime. Namely the man confessed to sexual abuse of the girl. But he did not confess to the murder. Meanwhile, according to preliminary conclusion of the experts the girl died of mechanical asphyxia.

Investigators are finding the picture of the crime while checking testimonies of the suspect at the murder scene in presence of witnesses and a lawyer. The area of investigation is cordoned off by law enforcement agents.

Investigation of this case from the very beginning has been under control of the senior officials of the regional directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee. 20 the most experienced investigators of the regional investigations directorate are working in Shelekhov, including those sent from Bratsk and other cities. A mobile forensic laboratory for investigating operations was involved round the clock. More than a thousand people have been checked in being involved in the crime. Several thousands people have been questioned. More than 500 samples have been taken to run DNA and other tests.

In the near future the Irkutsk Region investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee will petition to put the suspect into custody as a pretrial restraining measure. Investigating operations are underway to collect and consolidate evidence. Investigation is to be continued.
